Winter Sports World, Australia’s inaugural indoor snow resort, has launched its capital raising round to fund a landmark development in Penrith, New South Wales. Projected to inject $222 million annually into Western Sydney and drive $2.5 billion in economic growth over the next decade, the resort aims to attract 1.3 million domestic visitors each year and boost local overnight stays.
Leveraging its proximity—just 15 km—to the forthcoming Western Sydney International Airport, Winter Sports World will create over 2,720 jobs, half of them permanent, making it one of the region’s largest employers. Early works begin in 2025, with construction slated for 2026 and completion targeted for 2028. The attraction is forecast to be cash-flow positive in its first year of operation, 2029.
“I can’t think of a better place for Australia’s first indoor ski resort than in Penrith. Winter Sports World will be Western Sydney’s jewel in the crown of tourism attractions, and I can’t wait to see it enjoyed by people not just from our state, but from all around Australia and beyond.”
— Chris Minns, Premier of New South Wales
The 8,000 m² facility will feature a 300 m advanced ski and snowboard run, Olympic-standard training zones, a family snow-play area, and a 200-room, 4.5-star hotel with conference and dining facilities. Sustainability is central to the design, employing chemical-free real snow technology, inclusive layouts, and First Nations education trails.
“This project is a defining moment for the region’s evolution, shifting perceptions, attracting global attention and setting the standard for future landmark developments. It will put Australia on the map alongside global indoor snow destinations like Ski Dubai and Snow World Mumbai, none of which exist in the Southern Hemisphere to this scale.”
