Party Planners Transforms Natural History Museum into Rainforest for Attenborough Exhibition and Race to Belém Campaign

Party Planners, the award-winning event design agency, recreated a tropical rainforest in the Natural History Museum’s Hintze Hall to coincide with David Attenborough’s Immersive Exhibition and support Mercuria’s global Race to Belém initiative. Commissioned by Mercuria, the evening combined environmental advocacy with creative staging, featuring film by Open Planet and presentations from COP30 leadership.

The installation filled the hall with living plants—sourced sustainably and destined for reuse at Palmbrokers’ nursery—alongside bespoke tables incorporating potted specimens instead of cut flowers. Catering by By Word of Mouth used surplus ingredients to craft “No Waste” canapés in partnership with City Harvest London, raising funds for food redistribution across the capital. Wines from Gusbourne Estate in Kent and Sussex complemented the menu.

Speakers included COP30 CEO Ana Toni and representatives from business, finance, indigenous communities, science, and culture.

“Absolutely everything was recycled, reused, or returned. As an industry, we must continue to challenge ourselves and encourage our clients to act more responsibly when producing these incredible events. We were honoured to be entrusted by Mercuria to bring their vision to life for such a meaningful project. Meeting Sir David Attenborough and understanding the depth of this campaign made it even more powerful”.
